Haiti

Part A
Many human rights are being denied to the haitians. Haiti was already a poor country and was devastated when mother nature came along to devastate this innocent country with a 7.2 earthquake. After an event like that, most richer countries could just rebuild the damage and nothing would be that hard. However Haiti does not have that money and cannot rebuild them selves.
every second we wait, deceases are spreading because there are no places to wash hands. People are dyeing because there aren't any hospitals, and if there was, they would not have any money to buy medication. People can't even make money because people are uneducated and don't have a alternative way to make money.
We are already giving some attempts to help Haiti like a few mini clinic tents and some small food supply but these are not enough. We need to donate money to building hospitals, houses and other vital structures that have collapsed in the earthquake.
If Haiti is going to survive any longer, we need to give them our support and donate. Also Haiti could get loans from richer countries and use those loans to rebuild what they lost and educate more people. With their new education, they could get better jobs, build more banks, hospitals, ect. Then after they have enough money and education, they could repay the loans and live even better than they used to.

Part 2
1. What was it like playing the game?
It was very frustrating. When you would send someone to school they would ether get sick or have a depression from school work. When you would send someone to work they would get sick and lose their health. Even if you leave them at home they will get malaria and die.
2. What was the game about and how would you describe it to a friend?
This is the hardest game ever. within 2-3 rounds your whole family will be sick. Sometimes natural disasters come and destroy your possessions. It is hard.
3. Which ‘primary objective’ did you choose, and why?
wealth because without money you cannot achieve happiness, health or education.
4. What types of decisions did you have to make about the family members while playing the game and trying to achieve your objective?
I tried to make allot of them work so I could get money. I also gave them bikes so there was less effort put into the work.
5. What strategies did you use? For example, did you combine work and school, or did you send anyone to school? Which worked? Which did not?
I mostly sent the kids to school and I made the adults work because adults are offered more jobs than kids. I also tried sending them all to work. Neither of theses worked.
6. Why would parents choose to devote so much effort sending their children to school?
So they are offered more jobs when they are adults and they can know what is important and what they need to do in any situation.
7. What obstacles did you face in trying to keep the children in school?
Depressions from schoolwork and sicknesses.
8. How do the situations and options in the game compare with those in your own community / country?
Sometimes my parents say "we have to cut down on all the money we spend.". Now by playing this game I understand this. In the game you can find that you have to cut down on the number of people you send to school or the amount of stuff you buy.
9. Why is access to education a huge challenge as LEDC’s try to develop?
This is hard because school is very expensive and you might not have enough money so send people to school. Also, since everyone needs more money, it is nearly impossible to find a public (free) school.
10. Why is it vital to a country’s development to educate its people – especially women?
It is important because people need to know how to use things, know how to wash properly, how to avoid aids and other sicknesses, ect. Also people who are educated can be good at business and get money for the country, or become doctors and help those who are sick.
11. Suggest some ways that countries could prioritize education, even for women, even in the countryside. How can they do this?
Well educated people could tutor others and educate those who are sick or haven't got enough money for school. There should be some very cheap schools for those who care poor and cant afford a fancy school. I also think that somebody should come once a week to educate communities about diseases and how to avoid them.
12. Think back to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Look at the 8 targets. Look at how Haiti is doing so far. What will the targets be in the next 5 years for this country? Look at the MDG ‘Progress So Far’ website and search for Haiti to get the latest information.
I don't think that Haiti has met any of these goals yet. However they are making progress. They are starting to regain what they have lost and starting to pull it together. I think that in 2015, goals will not be about poverty, but about the environment because you cant live without fresh oxygen from trees and plants.

GOAL 1 | Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger:
Progress insufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist.

GOAL 2 | Achieve universal primary education
Progress insufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist.

GOAL 3 | Promote gender equality and empower women
Progress sufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist

GOAL 4 | Reduce child mortality
Progress sufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist.

GOAL 5 | Improve maternal health
Progress insufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist.

GOAL 6 | Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Progress sufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist

GOAL 7 | Ensure environmental sustainability
Progress insufficient to reach the target if prevailing trends persist

GOAL 8 | Develop a global partnership for development
Already met the target or very close to meeting the target.
